About DPG AIDS

The Development Partners group on HIV and AIDS (DPG-AIDS) was formally established in 2000 as a sub-group of DPG Tanzania (DPG-Main) to promote the HIV/AIDS agenda and support the development of the national Multisectoral response and a high-level focus on HIV/AIDS. Currently, DPG-AIDS has an active core of 6-7 and a total of 19 bilateral and multilateral member organisations providing a strong array of expertise for the AIDS response in Tanzania. Its government interlocutor is the Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS). DPG-AIDS is open to more bilateral and multilateral members as well as those who wish to join occasionally. The group also invites stakeholders to present when relevant.

Meetings

DPG AIDS has regular 90 minute monthly meetings 2nd Tuesday of every month and calls for extraordinary meetings when necessary.  The group has regular consultation with the government of Tanzania (TACAIDS and selected MDAs). DPG AIDS is represented in other fora including the Tanzania National Coordination Mechanism (TNCM) which meets on quarterly basis and in monthly DPG-Health meetings to which DPG-AIDS provides regular updates.

As part of the dialogue structure established in line with MKUKUTA, DPG-AIDS is part of the Joint Thematic Working Group (JTWG) on HIV and AIDS which is to operate under MKUKUTA Cluster 2. For closer follow up on specific technical issues, the government has Technical Working Committees (TWC) in line with the National Multisectoral HIV and AIDS Strategic Framework (NMSF II). The Working Committees are: Prevention, Care, treatment and Support, Impact Mitigation, Enabling Environment, Finance and Auditing and Monitoring & Evaluation. Many DPG-AIDS members also participate in TWGs of TC-SwAP and NACP.
