Welcome to the Development Partners Agriculture Working Group Website!

The Development Partners Agriculture Working Group (A-WG) is a group of fourteen (14) bi-lateral and mult-lateral agencies supporting the agriculture sector in Tanzania. The A-WG has been establiched to promote coherence and consistency in development assistance to agriculture through coordination of Development Partner's support in the sector with a vew of achieving harmonisation, promoting coordinated policy dialogue and reducing transaction costs. Specifically, the A-WG suppots the government of Tanzania's implimentation of the Agriculture Sector Development Strategy (ASDS) in achieving objectives stipulated in the second generation National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction (NSGPR II), also Known by its Swahili acronym as MKUKUTA II and the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). These efforts are mainly funded through General Bugget Support, the Agricuture Basket fund and projects (including technical assistance).

The A-WG is one of the sub-groups of the overall Development Partners Group (DPG). The group is organised around terms of references and a code of conduct agreed between government and DPs and is organised through a modified troika chairing structure. The chair, co-chair and secretatiat act a the leaders of the group, with other DPs being either active or delegating members, in accordance with the division of labour outlined in the Joint Assistance Strategy for Tanzania (JAST). Currently the A-WG is chaired by the United States (USAID) and co-chaired by the African Development Bank (ADB). FAO hold the secretariat of the group for the second three year tem until June 2012. The A-WG is involved in the sector dialogue with other stakeholders in a number of ways - through annual Agriculture Sector Review (ASR/PER), the Annual ASDP Joint Implimentation Reviews(JIR), Agriculture Sector Consultative group meetings, Quarterly ASDP Basket Fund Steering Commitee Meetings and other various sub-groups specializig in specific thematic areas.

The A-WG meets on every second last Thursday of the month.

Curent News.

Tanzania Signed the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Compact on 8th July, 2010. After the compact Tanzania prepared the Tanzania Agriculture and Food Security and Investment Plan (TAFSIP). Preparation of the TAFSIP was coordinated by Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives (MAFC) in collaboration with Agriculture Sector Lead Ministry (ASLM), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment Zanzibar (MALE), Development Partners, the Private Sector and other Non-State Actors.

On 10th and 11th October, 2011 Tanzanial held the TAFSIP Post CAADP Compact Business Meeting.  The sector is now looking towards implementation of the post business meeting roadmap.
