DPG Environment

DPG-E, the development partner group for environment, has been established formally in 2004, in order to build a coordinated development partner response to the Government’s Joint Assistance Strategy for Tanzania (JAST), within the overarching framework of the MKUKUTA. The Royal Norwegian Embassy takes over as Chair on May 1, 2012. DPG-E is co-chaired by the Finnish Embassy in natural resources management and has several focal points: DFID for climate change, Norwegian Embassy for REDD, UN for environmental mainstreaming, USAID for wildlife.

Moving towards a harmonised approach, DPG-E members have agreed to a three-pillar approach:

  • Policy dialogue,

  • Harmonised programmes and activities

  • Joint communication

DPG-E members develop the modality for joint activities in the framework of the three DPG-E subgroups: environment, climate change and natural resources management. This modality can take various forms; from a joint basket funding over a co-funded programme, to delegation of labour. Harmonised programming leads to the identification of strategic funding gaps and a joint approach to fill those gaps.

DP activities will be programmed along strategic interventions such as:

a) institutional strengthening,

b) policy support,

c) research and development,

d) non-state actor support.
